Freestyle Libre® 2 Sensors to Freestyle Libre® 2 Plus Sensors

The manufacturer (Abbott) has discontinued the Freestyle Libre 2 sensors as Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors which offer additional/improved features are now available.  For this reason, any patient currently being prescribed a Libre 2 device will have their prescription updated automatically as follows:

Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors work with the existing FreeStyle Libre Link app and the Freestyle Libre 2 reader.  Each Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensor needs to be replaced after 15 days (rather than after 14 days as with your existing Freestyle Libre 2 sensors).   Please use up any existing supply of Freestyle Libre 2 sensors before changing over to the Freestyle Libre 2 plus sensors.

Should any patient encounter any issues with the sensors being faulty on application or during wear (e.g. sensor falling off, sensor not sticking correctly, error message whilst scanning, not connecting to app/reader etc) please contact Abbott either by completing the Sensor Support Form | United Kingdom | FreeStyle Libre | Abbott or by telephone [0800 1701177, Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm excluding bank holidays]. Please retain sensor packaging until the sensor has expired as this will be needed by Abbott should a claim for a faulty sensor need to be made.

Important please note: If any patient starts their FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor with your FreeStyle Libre 2 reader you will not receive real time continuous glucose readings, even if you use the updated FreeStyle LibreLink app as your second device. You will need to flash scan your sensor to get your glucose reading on both devices. Glucose alarms are only received on the device used to start the sensor. Sensor expiry dates and times are only available on the device used to start the sensor.
